The idea is to combine your experiences and expertise with AI in order to create a more robust content strategy. Ask creative questions through prompts with AI. Instead of simple questions, you can merge one topic with another that are more specific to your subject.

I was on a major social media platform reviewing Online Digital Strategy. Several people had written articles about the subject and as I read them, realized they were all the same content with only slight word variations. I ran the text through an AI content checker and they were all… completely written with AI!

The marketers had asked an AI chatbot about digital strategy and then posted the content as if they had written it.

I also saw this recently in search results. For a marketing search, the excerpts of approximately eight major online websites all showed similar sentences. These sites were currently at the top of the rankings.

When all the returned search results are the same or similar, then a person looking for answers to their questions or doing research online are only finding repetition instead of unique content.

As a longtime fan of search engine algorithms, I anticipate that over time, search engines will eventually penalize websites where the content is entirely AI-generated.

Prepare now for this by writing content that is original so you don’t have to go back later and change it. I have seen lengthy blog posts that were written mostly, if not entirely, by AI. As a practice, this is widely accepted at the moment. However, it could potentially set you back in the future with search engine rankings as AI adoption evolves. Worse, you could have to rewrite all your posts! Ensure you’re always contributing to posts with your business voice and knowledge.

So, How Do You Write Effective Online Content With AI?

I like to call it “writing with AI” or “working together.” View AI like a partner in the process of content creation, not the full author.

The idea is to combine your experiences and expertise with AI in order to create a more robust content strategy.

Ask creative questions through prompts with AI. Instead of simple questions, you can merge one topic with another more specific to your subject. For instance, I’m writing about content creation. I could ask “What are the best strategies for online content creation?” This is a broad overview and others will likely have asked a similar question. Instead, ask “What are specific writing strategies for a small business blog?” This is still broad, but I haven’t actually seen this written on any website although it may be. I did a few searches, and it doesn’t appear to be online in the way Gemini AI generated it.

You can expound on the explanations provided by AI within the paragraphs, adding your commentary and thoughts. You could also ask AI to create an outline for a blog post and then you fill it out, asking for any assistance along the way if you want ideas.

What I have written here is meant to be a general set of guidelines that can prevent the internet from being the same on each website.

There is an important reason to consider this: Forbes explains what happens when AI scrapes the internet for search results and finds only content that it originally created… Model Collapse. They state it is already occurring, and each person that writes online can potentially prevent it from becoming more widespread.

As the original research in Nature outlines, “We note that access to the original data distribution is crucial: in learning tasks in which the tails of the underlying distribution matter, one needs access to real human-produced data. In other words, the use of LLMs at scale to publish content on the Internet will pollute the collection of data to train their successors: data about human interactions with LLMs will be increasingly valuable.

AI continuously improves its search results based on human-created content so ensure your online writing has your contributions.

Part of your marketing is bringing the originality of your brand forward, and you don’t get to showcase the best of your business if your content is exactly the same as everyone else.

  • What is unique to you and your business?
  • What do you have to say that is distinctive and sets you apart from others in your line of work ?
  • What is your mission statement or business concept that can always be central to your content writing?

How can you add your creativity to the content to make it exciting and informative to read?

Generative AI is still in development and expanding each day. Here are some good policies to follow when working with AI:

  • Thank AI for working with you and be respectful as you collaborate on your projects.
  • Always give attribution if you work with AI and your content is generated in any way.

You’ll see at the end of all my blog posts I do this. I want the reader to know that I worked with AI to create the content. Gemini asked that I provide attribution and gave me the sentence to include. You can ask your partner AI about attribution and follow what is stated.
